Spring is here, and it’s an exciting time at Inspiration Corporation. We are in the midst of opening our first project-based site on South King Drive in Washington Park. As you read this, families are moving into this facility. This newly rehabbed building has eight housing units, six of which are three bedroom units suitable for families and two are handicap accessible. Many of the participants in this housing program are non-custodial parents, who are working on maintaining sustainable housing in order to reunite with their children.

Inspiration Corporation has actively worked for many years with other organizations and building owners to find housing for our participants. This is the first building which Inspiration Corporation controls, and will help alleviate the persistent problem of family homelessness in Chicago.

During our last fiscal year, Inspiration Corporation provided permanent supportive housing and counseling for more than 300 participants. Each individual receives a specialized work-plan with one of our housing retention specialists, to increase self-sufficiency and promote long term success. Through a collaborative effort between landlords, tenants and our program staff, we have achieved a high retention rate, as nearly 90% of our participants remain housed after 2 years.

Over the next few months, we will share more details and success stories of individuals and families who benefit from our housing program. There is an almost endless need for housing in Chicago, but our new building will find a permanent home for many of those in need, one family at a time.
