We are pleased to announce Freeborn & Peters LLP as our October 2017 Volunteer Group of the Month!

Freeborn & Peters LLP has been one of Inspiration Corporation’s longest-standing corporate partners. Partner, John Shapiro, has been a member of Inspiration Corporation’s board of directors for more than 10-years, and provides pro-bono legal counsel to the agency. The firm has supported Inspiration Corporation’s annual One Inspired Evening art auction as a sponsor since 2004, and employees of the firm have volunteered at Inspiration Cafe for years.

We recently sat down with Freeborn & Peters’ current volunteer group leader, Ryan, to talk about why he got involved with Inspiration Corporation:

How did you hear about Inspiration Corporation?

Through my co-worker, John Shapiro (he is the general counsel for Inspiration Corporation).

What is the most enjoyable part of volunteering for you and your group?

Just giving back to those in our community.

What aspect of volunteering are you most excited about? What is the most challenging?

Again, giving back—but also growing closer to my co-workers.

What is your volunteer background?

I try help out a lot with my Catholic Church. I used to be on the parish council and have helped with the Youth Group. Currently, I’m a lector at mass and help lead a monthly Theology on Tap group.

Why do you volunteer?

It makes me happy to see others smile.

Describe one of the most interesting experiences you’ve had as a volunteer.

Being on church council, and learning all that goes on with running a church.

What are your hobbies, besides volunteering?

Reading, exercise, cooking, and trying to be sillier than my kids!  We love to do impressions.

What have you learned from your volunteer experience?

You get back more than you give.
