Our Volunteer of the Month for May is Dakota De Corah.  Dakota has quickly become an indispensable asset to Inspiration Corporation’s volunteer program and we couldn’t  be more grateful that she chooses to spend her time with us.  Thank you, Dakota!

How did you hear about Inspiration Corporation?

I heard about inspiration through Volunteermatch.com and it matched me up with the corporation. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with that match and giving my time here.

What is the most enjoyable part of volunteering for you?

I greatly enjoy meeting all those that walk through the front door of Inspiration. I enjoy being able to build friendships with those that not only work there but with the clients, and other volunteers as well. I greatly enjoy the feeling of being welcomed when giving my time.

What aspect of volunteering are you most excited about? What is the most challenging?

What excites me about volunteering is being that small hidden part in making a difference.

The most challenging part for me was taking that first step, it’s easy to go in and sign up. However, it’s making that time but when you do…it’s so rewarding and so worth it.

What is your volunteer background?

I don’t really have a background, per say, but I’ve always given my time freely to anyone in need. I do with an open heart not expecting anything other than just smiles and a Thank You. I’ve come from a community where helping those in need comes as second nature. So maybe this is my background but for me…it’s just what I’m taught to do.

Why do you volunteer?
I love volunteering because it doesn’t matter what title you carry, what matters is giving your time because you genuinely want to help; in whatever matter and not expecting anything in return other than a “Thank You”

Describe one of the most interesting experiences you’ve had as a volunteer.

One of the most interesting experiences I’ve had as a volunteer was given the title as the “Go to Person”, in the kitchen, during the Holiday Party. I felt unsure about that title but with the guide of the other helpers, and letting them know beforehand that we’re a team, we worked together and had a smooth run.

What are your hobbies, besides volunteering?

Being creative in the kitchen, I love being able to create a dish for the ones I love. I love traveling and keeping in touch with those that I have met during my travels. And definitely growing my faith and connecting with family in any way possible.

What have you learned from your volunteer experience?

I’ve learned to be more grateful, I’ve learned to be patient, and I’ve learned that volunteering your time gives you an inner joy that is far more rewarding than anything.
