Congratulations to Amy Dummer, our July 2012 Volunteer of the Month!

Amy started volunteering with Inspiration Corporation in 2008 and has been a regular Tuesday morning server at Inspiration Cafe for the last three years, often stepping behind the counter to assist with kitchen work when the going gets rough.

There isn’t much that Amy has not done as a volunteer during her time at Inspiration Corporation.  In addition to her regular Tuesday morning shift, Amy has provided food for, cooked, and served weekend meals with a group of friends, prepared dishes for and served at The Living Room Cafe’s holiday meals, helped staff the participant summer picnic, participated in a volunteer focus group, walked with Inspiration Corporation in the 2010 and 2011 Hunger Walks, acted as the Events Manager’s right-hand at last year’s One Inspired Evening, and has assisted with many other special events and functions.

For the last few weeks, Amy has been spending her Tuesday mornings working with our staff in the community garden at Inspiration Kitchens – Garfield Park, weeding, planting, picking, and generally maintaining the grounds.

Amy says that her favorite volunteer shifts have been during our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dinners, “because the food and presentations are outstanding.  Despite being from Wisconsin, I love me some southern food, but I also love to see people embracing their past and using it to make life better in the future.”

Amy will soon be leaving us to continue her good work with the Peace Corps.  We thank her for her generosity and support and wish her the best of luck in all that she does!
