Serving meals in an atmosphere of dignity and respect
While Inspiration Cafe traditionally served meals in a restaurant-style setting, we have modified and expanded meals production at Inspiration Cafe to help meet the rising needs resulting from the pandemic.
The Cafe is traditionally open to our participants every day of the year and operates like any other full-service restaurant in the city. More than just a place to eat, Inspiration Cafe is a refuge from the streets where participants can get a good meal, connect with fellow diners, volunteers, and staff, and form a supportive community. Cafe COVID-19 Update
In the wake of the pandemic, we have modified and expanded our programming to continue meeting our community’s needs.
We have temporarily shut down our Cafe space and Resource Room in Uptown, and have transitioned to distributing daily to-go meals to any community member in need. Those in need are encouraged to take as many meals as they need for them and their friends and family.
Along with the meals to-go, we are also handing out additional supplies (face masks, toiletries, etc.) when available. Our staff are maintaining social distancing and have increased sanitary practices and precautions.
Inspiration Kitchens
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, we began producing nutritious meals at Inspiration Kitchens to meet the rising need for emergency food assistance in the City of Chicago. Meals are delivered directly to people experiencing homelessness and poverty through a collection of partner organizations, including several shelters and transitional housing programs.
These prepared meals help fill a distinct need in the community by offering hot, healthy options incorporating donated product, fresh produce from local farms and our restaurant garden. Meals production at Inspiration Kitchens also provides employment and income opportunities for community members who have completed our job training program.
