Let’s hear it for Eric, a dedicated volunteer who has been with us for 10+ years! We’re so grateful that Eric is a part of our team, and we’re excited to highlight him as our February Volunteer of the Month.

Please continue reading below to learn more about Eric’s experience with Inspiration Corporation:

How did you hear about Inspiration Corporation?

I first heard about Inspiration Corporation from my former high school teacher, Mrs. Pierce. I had just finished high school in 2006, staying for a voluntary fifth year, and was looking for something to do so that my job resume would have no gaps. She recommended this and I decided to take a chance.

What is the most enjoyable part of volunteering for you?

The most enjoyable thing about volunteering for me I would say is “gestEric H._February 2017alt,” which means “the whole thing altogether.” I especially like doing the Highway Quiz Question of the Day with the guests and occasionally entertaining them, but the whole thing altogether is enjoyable.

What aspect of volunteering are you most excited about?

The aspect of volunteering that I am most excited about is getting to share the highway information I quiz the Cafe on, meaning when I give out the correct answer.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer because I am kind and caring. If we can provide help to those who need it, we should do so.

Describe one of the most interesting experiences you’ve had as a volunteer.

With interesting experiences, there are so many of them, but if I am going to try narrowing it down to one, it happened in December 2007. My current girlfriend was about to turn 20 years old on December 20th of that year which made it her golden birthday. I got permissions to play a makeshift soundtrack that featured 17 songs with the first letter of the song title matching her full name (first, middle, and last). The Cafe was in full agreement that I had a clever mind and when I told her the scheme behind the soundtrack, she was delighted.

What are your hobbies, besides volunteering?

My hobbies include playing video games, exploring different numbered highways, trains, watching cartoons (especially anime), and working on Power Point projects. The Power Point projects I do actually make up the backstory regarding the Highway Quiz Question of the Day since “Numbered Highway Systems” in each and every state is one of my top three primary research topics, with the others being “Dumb Laws” and “Public Transit Systems.”

What have you learned from your volunteering experience?

The biggest thing that I have learned from my volunteering experience is that we should all help each other.
