Gift Acceptance Policy

In an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Inspiration Corporation helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and placement, and housing.  Inspiration Corporation relies on the support of private individuals, foundations and corporate groups to conduct its mission.

This gift acceptance policy governs Inspiration Corporation’s acceptance of gifts and provides guidance to donors and their professional advisors in completing gifts.  Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of Inspiration Corporation.  Inspiration Corporation will respect a donor’s request that the donor’s gift be restricted for a particular purpose so long as that purpose is consistent with the mission and purposes of Inspiration Corporation.  Inspiration Corporation reserves the right to refuse any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the mission and purposes of the organization.

Inspiration Corporation accepts donations of cash or publicly traded securities.  Publicly traded securities will generally be sold by Inspiration Corporation at the earliest possible date following their receipt.

Inspiration Corporation also accepts other types of gifts, including real property, personal property, non-liquid securities, in-kind services, and contributions whose sources are not transparent.  Prior to acceptance of any such gift or a gift to be earmarked for a particular purpose, however, an Inspiration Corporation committee comprised of staff and board members must authorize acceptance of the gift after considering whether the gift may pose a particular obligation on or create a unique liability for Inspiration Corporation.  Inspiration Corporation reserves the right to contract with a third-party evaluator to provide an appraisal of a gift.

Inspiration Corporation does not provide advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and it encourages donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisors to assist them in the process of making their gift.

Inspiration Corporation will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting IRS substantiation requirements for property received by the organization as a gift.  However, with the exception of gifts of cash, publicly traded securities, or real estate, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by Inspiration Corporation.

In adherence with ethical standards, Inspiration Corporation will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders’ fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to the organization.

Approved by unanimous vote by Inspiration Corporation’s governing board on 6/30/2015.
